Local group travels to Italy and Greece for educational tour
The travelers spent their first day in Rome on a walking tour of various famous sites such as the Pantheon (A.D. 120), Trevi Fountain, and the Spanish Steps. That evening the troop was treated to a tour of Rome by Night, where they saw the Coliseum, St. Peter’s Basilica and Trevi Fountain illuminated by a beautiful glow of lights. The group ended their evening at their beautiful Hotel Polentone located in the Roman Hills. They enjoyed the pet chickens and rabbits that freely roamed the grounds. Sam Sample said that when he was awakened by the rooster crowing each morning, he thought he was still at home! On day three the group explored the world’s smallest country, Vatican City. After touring the Vatican Museum with galleries filled with one artistic masterpiece after another, they were led to Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel by an extremely knowledgeable tour guide, an art major from the University of Rome. The students and adults were mesmerized by his wealth of knowledge and the passion in which he presented the magnificent works of art. Next they toured St. Peter’s Basilica, which was erected on the site where the saint was actually martyred. There they viewed Michelangelo’s breathtaking Pieta’, the only sculpture he ever signed. Later that day the group took a walking tour of Rome’s largest amphitheater, the Colosseum (A.D. 80). It played host to gladiatorial combat as well as mock sea battles, animal hunts and Christian executions. The group also toured the Forum Romanum, once the heart of the Roman Empire, where Caesar was cremated. Day four of the tour led the travelers on a drive through the picturesque Tuscan landscape on an excursion to Florence, which is the birthplace of the Italian language, the Renaissance and opera. The walking tour of Florence ended in the Piazza della Signoria, where Michelangelo’s David originally stood; today, an impressive replica stands in its place. The group saw the Santa Maria del Fiore Cathedral, better known as the Duomo, which dominates Florence’s skyline. The travelers toured a leather factory and learned how to tell the difference between simulated and actual leather. Later the group enjoyed the local cuisine, such as pizza, for lunch. After lunch the group toured the Santa Croce, which is a beautiful cathedral where Galileo and Michelangelo are buried.Rome Airport Hotels - News

Hotels cash in on the Kentucky Derby by ramping up their room rates, so try private bed-and-breakfast-style accommodation. Go to Air BnB (airbnb.com), type ''Kentucky Derby'' into the search field and you'll find close to 20 listings, mostly pretty

Avoiding such hassles is why so many travelers arrange to be met at the airport by friends or drivers or tour guides, pay extra to stay in centrally located hotels with concierges, and shell out absurd roaming fees to use Google Maps to find their way

Can anyone recommend a hotel within an hour or so of Leonardo da Vinci Airport (FCO) in Rome? My husband and I will be driving from the Siena area, so we'd prefer something north or west of Rome. Obviously there are many choices at the airport, but we'd like to stay in or near somewhere at least a little scenic. We are already staying in the Orvieto area at the beginning of our trip.
Hello, jentrav, I haven't but I have known travelers who have stayed at hotels at Ostia Antica which I understand is not far from the Rome airport. If you go to Trip Advisors you should find some good reviews. And if memory serves me right the last couple returned their rental car at the airport and took a taxi to their Ostia Antica hotel and of course used the taxi again the next morning to get back to the airport. Anyway, just one suggestion you might want to check out. Have a lovely trip!
The other is the Marriott, which has expensive rooms and very expensive food, and which converted our bill from Euros to dollars at their inflated rates. We did not notice this because we were leaving at 4 am and were rushed. It is called "dynamic currency conversion" and is a way to extract more coney from you. If you should encounter a place that insists on doing it, sign your credit card receipt with the notation, "signed under protest".Rome Airport Hotels - Bookshelf
