I should have seen this coming, it's so pre-2004.

Boston rolls into August looking like gangbusters, then they run into the Yankees, and then they're down 4 games. It's called the September Swoon, even if it happens when August isn't a week old.

The Boston Red Sox blew a 2-0 lead, and the New York Yankees won the first game of the series, 3-2.

David Ortiz hit home run #21 for Boston, and Jacoby Ellsbury had a run-scoring double. John Lester (11-5, 3.23) took the L.
