The AmeriServ Flood City Music Festival is set for August 5-7 with a strong lineup that includes Gregg Allman, JJ Grey & Mofro, Bettye LaVette, and Black Joe Lewis & the Honeybears.

“This community becomes a music epicenter during the first week in August,” said Glenn Wilson, president and CEO of AmeriServ Financial, the event’s title sponsor. “Bringing musicians of this caliber to entertain makes our community the place to be for the entire weekend. The AmeriServ Flood City Music Festival showcases both nationally known artists and local musicians. It’s AmeriServ’s commitment to help our community shine and bring visitors to our region.”

Gregg Allman — As a founding member of the one and only Allman Brothers Band and in his own storied solo career, Allman has long been a gifted natural interpreter of the blues. His soulful and distinctive voice is one of the defining sounds in the history of American music. The legendary Rock & Roll Hall of Famer recently released his seventh solo recording and first in more than 13 years, Low Country Blues, produced by T Bone Burnett. Like any genuine bluesman, Allman’s own life has been colored by myriad triumphs and too many tragedies. Low Country Blues was initially slated for a mid-2010 release, but that plan changed when Gregg, who had long battled chronic Hepatitis C, was notified that he was a candidate for a liver transplant. In June 2010, he entered the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida where he successfully underwent the difficult surgery. An inveterate road warrior, Allman has been understandably itching to return to the endless highway. He spent the months following the surgery hitting both the gym and the rehearsal studio, working hard to restore his vitality to its requisite level. Moreover, Allman is eager to get out there to bring these songs to his countless fans. The festival is delighted to bring him to Johnstown.

JJ Grey & Mofro – Singing with a passion and fervor directly influenced by the classic soul heroes, JJ Grey has written and recorded five albums of original songs steeped in the rhythm & blues, rock, and country soul of his native backwoods home outside Jacksonville, Florida. Grey comes from a long tradition of Southern storytellers and, in that spirit, he fills his songs with details that are at once vivid, personal and universal.  The New York Times has praised JJ’s “balance of wildness and cool” describing his music as “Southern swamp rock with undercurrents of Memphis soul. His songs chronicle ambiguous truths and unambiguous urges,” delivered by Grey’s “winningly uncontrived vocals.” Likewise, Billboard has praised Grey’s “world-beating blend of Southern rock, blues and Florida swamp soul.
