Intel is lowering the price for the new generation of ultrabook

It seems that Intel has managed to remove the last obstacle in the path of its future success, the ultrabook platform. The future of ultra-light and thin notebooks (presented first at the Computex 2011) not only depends on the success on a market where the main competitor is the MacBook Air, but – especially – the production costs and the final price.

Intel has finalized reference price specifications of the components for its future ultrabooks. Without counting the cost of assembling, it’s 475-650 dollars for ultrabook models with a thickness of 21mm, and 493-710 dollars for those with a thickness of 18mm, announced DigiTimes, citing sources from manufacturers.

Intel strives to drop the ultrabook price below the MacBook Air price

Intel officials will hold next week a meeting in Taipei with leading product designers to talk about component  prices and other details in an effort to control the selling price of the ultrabook and keep it under $1,000. This threshold is crucial for Intel devices so that they can successfully compete with similar devices made by Apple (MacBook Air costs between $999 and $1,599) – even though the ultrabooks will have a new design, which includes a housing made of magnesium and aluminum metal alloy (instead of fiberglass) and SSD (Solid State drive) hard-drives.

Intel will also promote the future generation of the ultrabook based on Ivy’s Bridge CPU built on 22 nm technology, scheduled for 2012, and future models based on Haswell CPU, which would be launched in 2013. They will provide a longer battery life, data transfer via USB 3.0 and Thunderbo and I/O technology.

The current ultrabooks, based on Huron River CPU (launched in 2011) and Chief River CPU (which will be launched in early 2012) will be available in a range of 11 to 17 inches: models with screens of 11-13 inches will have a thickness of 18 mm and those with screens of 14-17 inches, 21 mm. According to DigiTimes sources, Intel has created five reference designs for models with a thickness of 18mm, which include the future ultrabooks UX21 and UX31 made by Asustek.

The first models of ultrabooks (manufactured by Asus, and then Lenovo and LG) with the Windows operating system will arrive on stores in September. AppleInsider reports, however, that, despite the efforts of Intel, Asus UX31 13.3-inch model will cost around $1,600.

Other models, manufactured by Acer and HP will follow. Intel hopes that, by the end of 2012, these devices will represent about 40% of total sales of laptops.

Remove & Replacing replacement aluminum window with vinyl windows ...

Hi, I used the window foam, and it expands enough to seal the gap. It doesnt interfere with opening and closing the window. Also, its been 9 months since i installed all 12 windows at my place. So far it has hold up against 4 hail storms, many T-storm warning, heavy rains and the crazy snow storm in Oklahoma. It still close and open as smooth as before, no water leaks, and no drafts.

Hey fella. nice job on your window. I am a window installer by trade and you did a fine job for your first try. I would recommend screwing the top screws first so it won’t fall out of the hole. Also if you put your top screws in vertically you can adjust the level of your window by either tightening or loosening the left and right side screws to either raise or lower each side independently. Just saves you wrestling with it when you’re by yourself.
