Cover Story: Surviving the Lockout, Utah Blaze

The National Football League just barely ended their lockout and the future of the National Basketball Association and its lockout is a bit uncertain. It is inevitable that the lockout will end and we can’t wait for that to happen, but the current situation in the NBA has motivated us to look beyond the Utah Jazz and into the realm of other local sports teams in Utah. College football and basketball aside, Utah claims ownership of four different teams that cater to the tastes of each sports fan. From ice hockey to baseball and arena football to soccer, there is enough athletic talent to get your inner fan bursting with excitement. Get your foam fingers ready, because we have your guide to a full year’s worth of sports entertainment, and none of it involves waiting for an end to the lockout. If you are having a football conversation with a Utah native, then you may find that the person you are speaking to is most likely either a BYU Cougars fan or a University of Utah Utes fan. If the conversation goes outside of college and into the National Football League, then you are going to hear a wide range of personal team preferences, and this is primarily because Utah does not have a football team in the NFL. While we love our college and NFL football teams, there is something to be said about Utah’s AFL team and how accessible the players are. Going to a Blaze game puts you up-close and center to the action, and you even have the opportunity to meet your player of choice after the game.
