Principal Heads To Court For Party Where Minors Caught Drinking

7/27/11 - A Hartland elementary school principal and her husband will appear in court early next month for hosting a party where police say underage drinking was permitted. Tracey Sahouri, the principal of Creekside Elementary, and her husband Raed were both ticketed by Argentine Township Police for hosting a party July 9th at their Rolston Road home where authorities say minors were drinking alcohol. A 16-year-old female was said to be intoxicated and had passed out in the driveway, prompting Raed to call 911. He reportedly told police that he knew the minors were drinking but neither he nor his wife supplied them with any alcohol. Witnesses told police that the underage guests brought in their own alcohol. Both have been issued court appearance tickets for “consumption or possession of alcohol or controlled substances by minors at social gatherings”. A preliminary hearing in Fenton’s 67th District Court is set for August 8th. Argentine Police Chief Daniel Allen tells WHMI just because the defendants did not supply the alcohol, doesn’t mean they didn’t violate the law. Allen adds that anyone hosting an event where alcohol is being served and minors are present need to pay extra attention to make sure they’re not consuming any alcohol. The Sahouris plan to fight the tickets, saying they called police once they discovered underage drinking. But Allen says their investigation shows the couple was aware of the the illegal drinking before calling for help. Meanwhile, Hartland Consolidated Schools is continuing its investigation of Tracey Sahouri, which was re-opened after the district discovered that she had been ticketed too, not just her husband. Superintendent Jan Sifferman tells WHMI that they’re still talking with witnesses and waiting on additional information from Argentine Township Police.
