Heidi Seeman's Legacy Lives At Animal Defense League

SAN ANTONIO -- Among the Heidi Search Center volunteers shampooing homeless dogs at the Animal Defense League are Heidi Seeman's mother and sister.

Like any little girl, they said Heidi dreamed of becoming a ballerina or a writer. They said she also had dreamed of becoming a veterinarian because of her love for animals.

In August 1990, volunteers fanned out searching for the missing 11-year-old, led by her father's former boss, Air Force Maj. Eric Duncan.

Later he would become a prime suspect in her death after her remains were discovered weeks later in Hays County. Duncan underwent an Article 37 hearing, the military equivalent of a civilian grand jury, but has never been charged.

"I don't know who killed Heidi. I wish I did," Heidi's mother said.

The Seemans spent Thursday at the shelter, in Heidi's memory.

"It's a wonderful day because we're giving back to the community of San Antonio," said Theresa Seeman, Heidi's mother.

Her other daughter Heather said it was only right because thousands "helped us when we really needed it."

Yet Theresa Seeman said she still holds out hope that someday, that one tip will finally lead to whoever murdered her daughter.

She said even now, it is never too late to share any bit of information with the San Antonio Police Department or the Heidi Search Center, created after her death to aid the search for missing children and adults.
